VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Must register to vote at least 25 days before the election.
Can change or select party affiliation until 25 days before the election.

QUALIFICATIONS

To register to vote in the state of North Carolina, an individual must meet the following qualifications:
• Be a United States citizen
• Be a resident of North Carolina and the voter's county for 30 days before the election
• Be at least 18 years old by the next general election
• Not be registered nor planning to vote in any other county or state
• Not have been convicted of a felony (unless rights of citizenship have been restored)

Who Can Absentee Vote in North Carolina?

Voters request an absentee ballot from the Board of Elections if registered to vote, but unable to go to the polls on Election Day. Absentee voting is permitted in most elections.

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

Make a written request not later than the final Tuesday preceding Election Day. The request should include the voter's name, residence address, date of birth, address to which the ballot should be mailed, and signature of the voter or near relative (indicate relationship with voter).

A near relative (spouse, brother, sister, parent, child, grandchild) may appear at the elections office 50 days prior, but not later than 5 p.m. on the Tuesday preceding Election Day, and complete an absentee application for the absentee voter.

Members of the military and other overseas citizens may request an absentee ballot using the Federal Postcard Application, available online here.

Registered voters can also vote using the One-Stop Absentee Voting program during the two weeks preceding the election. For more information regarding this program and specific locations for early voting, contact the local county board of elections.
