Representative Christopher P. 'Chris' Carney repeatedly refused to provide any responses to citizens on the issues through the 2008 Political Courage Test when asked to do so by national leaders of the political parties, prominent members of the media, Project Vote Smart President Richard Kimball, and Project Vote Smart staff. What is the Political Courage Test? This candidate has responded to a different Political Courage Test. As a continued effort to provide the American public with factual information on candidates running for public office, these archived responses are made available here. Border Security is National Security. As a counterterrorism expert, I am extremely concerned about our porous borders. For each fully trained Iraqi battalion, one American battalion should come home. The President says we have 50-60 fully trained Iraqi battalions, so 50-GO American battalions should be coming home. We cannot afford to duplicate the efforts of the Iraqis. We cannot afford to risk the lives, and we cannot afford the deficit spending.

National Security must be our country's number one priority. As a counterterrorism expert, I know that our border and port security have been ignored by Washington for years. We must secure our borders, and we must not reward illegal immigrants with amnesty.

As a working father, I will fight to make affordable, quality healthcare available to all Americans.

Our rural communities need more jobs and economic opportunities. I will fight to create and retain good jobs.
