NOTE: THIS VOTE WAS TAKEN UNDER A SUSPENSION OF THE RULES TO CUT OFF DEBATE EARLY AND VOTE TO PASS THE BILL, THEREBY REQUIRING A TWO-THIRDS MAJORITY FOR PASSAGE.

Official Title of Legislation:

HR 3722: An act to amend section 1011 of the Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement, and Modernization Act of 2003 to impose conditions on Federal reimbursement of emergency health services furnished to undocumented aliens.

Highlights:

-Prohibits federal reimbursement of funds to hospitals that provide emergency services to undocumented immigrants unless the hospital provides the Secretary of Homeland Security with citizenship and employment records (Sec. 3).

-Makes employers of certain undocumented immigrants financially responsible for the medical treatment of these immigrants (Sec. 3).

-Allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to remove undocumented immigrants under Federal immigration law (Sec. 3).
