Project Vote Smart's Synopsis: Vote to adopt an amendment to an amendment that places an expiration date on a point based immigration system.
NOTE: THIS IS AN AMENDMENT TO A SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT. A SUBSTITUTE AMENDMENT REPLACES THE ENTIRE TEXT OF A PIECE OF LEGISLATION WITH A NEW TEXT.
Official Title of Legislation: S Amdt 1202 to S Amdt 1150 to S 1348: To provide a date on which the authority of the section relating to the increasing of American competitiveness through a merit-based evaluation system for immigrants shall be terminated.
Highlights: -Expires September 30 of the fifth fiscal year after enactment (sec. 509)
-Increases the level of family sponsored immigrants from 226,000 to 567,000 (sec. 509(d))
