VOTER REGISTRATION DEADLINE

Must register to vote by the fourth Saturday prior to the date of the election

QUALIFICATIONS

To register to vote in the state of Delaware, an individual must meet the following qualifications:
• Be 18 years of age or older on or before the day of the next general election
• Be a United States citizen
• Be a resident of Delaware (proof required)
• Be mentally competent

Can register to vote in person or obtain a mail-in application:

• At any local Department of Elections Office
• Division of Motor Vehicles
• Department of Health & Social Services
• Department of Labor

DELAWARE ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Who Can Absentee Vote in Delaware?

A registered voter can request an absentee ballot if he/she is prevented from voting at the polling place for any of the following reasons:
• The nature of his/her business or occupation (including students)
• Service or a spouse's service to the United States or to the State of Delaware
• The tenets or teaching of your religion
• Vacation
• Illness
• Disability
• Incarceration (not for a felony)

How Can I Acquire an Absentee Ballot?

Absentee Ballots are usually available approximately 35 days prior to a Primary Election and 45 days prior to a General Election.

Persons may vote by absentee ballot once ballots are available between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on normal business days at the voter's local elections office. Absentee ballots may also be requested by mail or in person at the voter's local elections office.  Persons can vote in office by absentee ballot up until 12 noon the day before an election. Military personnel, their dependents and overseas citizens may request an absentee ballot online by completing a Federal Post Card Application.

How do I Return the Absentee Ballot and What is the Deadline?

Vote and return your ballot as soon as you receive it. Ballots may be returned by mail or taken to the Department of Elections for that County, and must be received by 8pm on the day of the election.
